I have a business background and am a former Minister of Local Government and Mayor of Auckland City. I have served on Auckland Council since amalgamation and on the Board of Auckland Transport until 2016 when Mayor Goff removed elected members.
Under my leadership, the Britomart Transport interchange was achieved and the opening up of Auckland’s waterfront. I am active in numerous community organisations, including the Motutapu Restoration Trust, one of New Zealand’s largest ecological restoration projects, and Auckland Special Olympics where I have worked as patron for twenty years. I am passionate about parks, conservation and heritage and am committed to ensuring Auckland has the necessary physical and social infrastructure to support growth.
I have consistently demanded improved performance and greater accountability from Council-Controlled-Organisations (CCOs), responsible for 75% of council’s budget and a better funding partnership for Auckland with Central Government.
