C&R selects Will McKenzie as Albert-Eden candidate

Communities and Residents (C&R) has selected Will McKenzie as its candidate for the Albert-Eden Local Board (Maungawhau subdivision) by-election. Mr McKenzie is a resource management lawyer and a long-time local resident.

Will brings a wealth of experience in governance, law and policy, statistics, advocacy and sports management. He has lived in the Albert-Eden local board area for over 25 years with his wife and closely supported many community organisations, including representing Friends of Fowlds Park and Save Chamberlain Park in their successful battles to prevent inappropriate developments in local parks.

A sports enthusiast, Will brought the AFL to Western Springs Stadium, was instrumental in the Warriors basing themselves at Mt Smart Stadium, and was Executive Director of Epsom's Auckland Badminton Association and General Manager of the National League Diamonds Netball team.

“Maungawhau is a very special part of Auckland and we need to fight to preserve the best of our environment, while supporting and accepting progress that improves the lives of our people.

"I look forward to the opportunity of standing up for our communities in Epsom, Mt Eden, Kingsland, Greenlane and Balmoral, and fighting every day for their fair share of funding.

"Working as part of the strong and capable C&R Maungawhau team, I'll keep Auckland Transport accountable and focus on the issues that matter most – safer neighbourhoods, protecting our green space and heritage, growing business activity, better council services and reliable public transport and infrastructure."

C&R President Kit Parkinson is excited with the selection.

“Will’s breadth of knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the Local Board as it helps navigate Albert-Eden through the coming period of growth and change,” says Mr Parkinson.

C&R is the most experienced political group in Auckland local government whose values include putting local residents at the heart of decision-making, smart spending of ratepayer money, delivering core council services, and preserving our environment.
