I’m a born and bred Aucklander, former local Member of Parliament, Local Government Minister and Mayor of Auckland City.

Before politics, I worked in manufacturing and exporting. Under my Mayoral leadership, Britomart was achieved and Auckland’s first transport interchange, enabling the opening-up and redevelopment of Auckland’s waterfront. I’m active in community organisations, including the Motutapu Restoration Trust (founding trustee and patron), Auckland Special Olympics and numerous sporting groups.

I’m passionate about Auckland’s Regional Parks, environment, heritage and protection of Manukau Harbour and Hauraki Gulf and Islands. I’m critical of Council’s failure to effectively advocate to central government on key policy issues, including NPS-UD and infrastructure funding, Three Waters, Light Rail, CRL operational costs, and also Council’s abject failure to implement major transport projects cost effectively. I’m committed to improved oversight of Auckland Transport and other CCO’s, and greater accountability to ratepayers.
